Flower fairies

squashed flower fairies
We have been working really hard at Luva Huva and all feel a bit dizzy and tired. We now have the pictures from our summer shoot and we are working hard to put our new catalogue together.
There is always the job of naming all the garments. Its been tradition, from our Suffolk roots to name our garments after flowers ...although it is begining to be a challenge to find new flower names that we havent used before.
I recently came across some very old flower fairy books at Portobello Market with beautiful illustrations. I found a few new names inside 'Tansy' 'Jasmine' 'Scilla'. Look out for them in the new collection.
Talking about these fairies in the studio brought up the darker topic of the the squashed flower fairy book.. dark but also good!

Sterling Johnson was trained as an engineer and a lawyer but started blowing bubbles to amuse his friends. 30 yrs later he has developed his bubble blowing into a full stage show. He is the only person to put a bubble inside a bubble only using his hands and to walk in and out of bubbles.
He says on his website that that his favourite bubble blowing story comes from when he was volunteering in a school for children with special needs. He was blowing bubbles on a formica table and a girl with severe autisum, who normally gave little reaction to what was going on around her suddenly became engaged and her eyes cleared and she began to enjoy popping the bubbles.
Having worked with children with special needs for 4 years before I starting Luva Huva I like this story.

Miss Blackbirdy

Miss Blackbirdy
Miss Blackbirdys story telling collection is delicate and beautiful. Her garments are like her drawn illistrations with a focus on monochrome line. Fragile and girlish with a touch of naivety- we love it.
